David DuBois Named New IAEE President; Joe Goldblatt and Jason Fulvi

Doreen Biela, CEM, chair of the board of directors of the International Association of Exhibitionsand Events (IAEE) announced today that David DuBois, CMP, CAE, FASAE, CTA will serve as the new president of the organization effective in October.

DuBois currently serves as the president and CEO of the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau and has extensive events industry experience having served previously in executive leadership roles with Sheraton and Ritz-Carlton Hotels, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and Meeting Professionals International (MPI). In addition, he has served the industry in many volunteer leadership roles and is recognized as a leading and respected advocate of the events industry. More

Professor Joe Goldblatt receives Klaus Inkamp Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Special Events Society

Professor Joe Goldblatt, CSEP was honoured during the twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations of the International Special Events Society in Dallas, Texas o. 4, August 2012. Dr. Goldblatt received the Klaus Inkamp Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to education and certification in the global special events industry.  Klaus Inkamp was an events management executive with The Coca Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia and a longtime personal friend of Dr. Goldblatt. Following his untimely death, the International Special Events Society created this award to honour his contributions to the international special events industry. The Klaus Inkamp Award has only been presented six times in its history. Upon accepting the award, Professor Goldblatt stated "I am grateful to the Society for this honour and accept it on behalf of all the outstanding men and women who have served as president of ISES during the past 25 years. Their talents, selfless service and devotion to others has greatly enriched the global special events industry." 

VisitPittsburgh Names New Executive Vice President, Additional Personnel Changes

VisitPittsburgh, the official tourism promotion agency for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, recently made several personnel announcements. These staff changes came about as part of a strategic realignment to capitalize on the strength of the organization’s sales, marketing and technical talent.  Jason Fulvi was promoted from Executive Director of Convention Sales to Executive Vice President. Jason is a Certified Destination Marketing Executive (CDME) who oversees VisitPittsburgh’s Convention Sales, Convention Services and Partnership Development Departments. In addition, Jason is also responsible for day-to-day operations of VisitPittsburgh in the absence of Craig T. Davis, CDME, VisitPittsburgh’s President and CEO. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, Jason joined VisitPittsburgh in 2002 as Senior National Sales Director and quickly advanced to Executive Director of Convention Sales. His background includes more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Jason recently completed his second term as Chair of the Destination Marketing Association International Sales and Marketing Committee and currently serves as a committee member for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Karl Pietrzak was promoted to Vice President of Convention Sales. He is responsible for the strategic management of VisitPittsburgh’s successful Convention Sales team. Karl joined VisitPittsburgh in 2003 as a National Sales Director and was named Senior National Sales Director in 2007. Karl is a member of Destination Marketing Association International and is pursuing the Certified Destination Marketing Executive credential. 

Connie George recently joined VisitPittsburgh as Vice President of Communications. Connie is responsible for strategically planning and executing of all internal and external communication programs that support and enhance VisitPittsburgh’s sales and marketing efforts. Most recently, Connie was director of marketing and public relations for the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. She is on the board of directors for the Women’s Press Club and the Western Pennsylvania Human Society. She also serves on the advisory committees for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and Achieva and is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America. 

As the official tourism promotion agency for Allegheny County, VisitPittsburgh is dedicated to generating convention, trade show and leisure travel business for the Pittsburgh region.

George Aguel Receives New Assignment

One of theWalt Disney Co.'s best-known executives in Orlando — and across the U.S. meetings-and-conventions industry — has a new assignment.

George Aguel, a 22-year Disney veteran and a former chairman of Visit Orlando, the area's main convention-and-visitors bureau, will now focus exclusively on lining up corporate sponsors and third-party operators for all of Disney's theme-park holdings worldwide.
