 On this nationwide day of advocacy the PCMA Capital Chapter will spotlight the substantial value derived from business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions, and will engage policymakers with business leaders with the assistance of a who’s who of guest speakers throughout the afternoon’s sessions and events.

Session 1: Grassroots Impact
A key ingredient to creating strong and vibrant communities is a robust meetings industry. Across the continent, meetings and events bring energy, excitement, vitality and economic gains to destinations. Hosting an event, convention or trade show stimulates a region’s economy by bringing in a new group of visitors that stay in area hotels, eat in local restaurants, shop in neighborhood stores and bring new revenue to the destination.

Learning Outcomes:
Learn about grassroots efforts across North America that are bringing more meetings and events to their regions.
Discover the impact grassroots campaigns already have had on creating personal connections and business relationships.

Session 2: Value of Meetings - Business Impact of Meetings
The meetings industry contributes more to U.S. national GDP than the air transportation, motion picture, sound recording, performing arts and spectator sport industries. It is an economic engine, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, generating billions of dollars in revenue and supporting communities across the country.

Learning Outcomes:
Understand how the meetings industry is a significant driver of economic growth and jobs.
Be able to recite specific examples of the economic impact of the meetings industry.

Session 3: Local/Federal Government Regulations
Face-to-face meetings are an indispensable tool for Congress, federal workers and the private sector. From safety inspections to scientific collaboration to emergency preparedness and training, face-to-face meetings are essential for many of the government’s most important functions. A recent study by Rockport Analytics found that government travel for meetings leads to greater productivity and efficiency and found that cancelling government participation in meetings and conferences can actually cost taxpayers more in the end.

Meetings Mean Business:  How to educate? How to embrace? How to live it?

Business meetings and events play a critical role in connecting people and driving positive business results throughout the continent. Often the industry’s impact goes unnoticed, but the value is unmistakable. We are emphasizing the same themes for NAMID as we do for the Meetings Mean Business campaign:

Great things happen when people come together. Face-to-face interaction is the platform where deals are struck, relationships are forged and ideas are generated. That’s what Meetings Mean Business is all about: showing the real power of what business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions collectively do for people, businesses and communities.
