On Tuesday, Nov. 11 Members of the Greater Midwest Chapter of PCMA will volunteer their time for a repack session at the Greater Chicago Food Depository to credit GMC PCMA's charity, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly!
The Greater Chicago Food Depository, a nonprofit food distribution and training center that provides food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.
The Food Depository, founded in 1979, makes a daily impact across Cook County with a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile programs, children’s programs, older adult programs and innovative responses that address the root causes of hunger. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 67 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 154,000 meals every day.
The Depository regularly needs volunteers to help with repacking donated food and other products, as a lot of the food they receive at their warehouse comes in bulk quantities and volunteers help break it down into more manageable sizes. Our volunteers will be participating in a repack session and sorting produce, or repacking bulk dry goods (cereal, pasta, rice) into smaller quantities to efficiently distribute quality food to participating food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in Cook County.
