Masters Series: When "Free" is No Longer An Option:  Navigating New Pricing Realities at Convention Centers

Captured at PCMA Convening Leaders in January

The days of meeting planners receiving convention center space or services for free are dwindling. As more cities tighten their financial belts, the pressure on government-owned convention facilities to remain profitable is rising - decreasing their ability to be flexible with pricing. This is not your ordinary panel. Experienced planners and convention center reps will share their real life pain points in a fishbowl discussion. Claire Smith will then dig deeper with the panelists to underscore the salient key points and discuss the outcomes. Throughout the session you’ll actively participate through text polling. Don’t miss this important conversation about these new financial realities and which new pricing alternatives might be viable and sustainable for everyone involved. Planners will walk away with a better understanding to help forecast budgets, as well as ideas for collaboration with venue partners. Suppliers will leave with solid communication points and a stronger understanding of the planner point of view.

  • Understand how the current convention center pricing model is no longer sustainable and be able to articulate it to your stakeholders
  • Contribute to conversations about new pricing solutions that will be viable for both facilities and planning organizations
  • Anticipate and accommodate the changes with creative funding/pricing models within your own meetings.
