From digital to downtown, D.C.’s landscape is evolving.
As the country’s center of policymaking, Washington, D.C., offers a powerful and prestigious setting for meetings and events. Now with a surge of more than $8 billion in new developments, including new attractions, mixed-use projects, and even neighborhoods, planners will find that D.C.’s downtown landscape is drastically changing. But there’s a whole other landscape in D.C. that’s changing too - the digital- and social-media landscape.
Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, delivers premier event experiences across the destination in addition to managing the 2.3-million-square-foot Walter E. Washington Convention Center and several other venues throughout Washington, D.C. The authority also handles all types of events in the destination, from festivals and sporting events to citywide conventions and corporate meetings. As a result, D.C. has become a leader in the digital- and social-media world when it comes to events. Events DC has packaged a cutting-edge mix of digital-media assets and tools to help planners and their clients connect with meeting attendees as well as each other.
From high-speed Wi-Fi to the remote connectivity of EventPath, digital assets available at D.C.’s venues are the latest and greatest. In September, the official Walter E. Washington Convention Center app, developed by Swift- Mobile, launched, letting attendees touch base with each other on- or off-site through iPads, iPhones, or Droids. From finding local hotspots to event schedules, everything attendees could need is at their fingertips. Planners can even tailor the app’s features for their own events.
Digital signage at the center offers planners, exhibitors, and sponsors unique opportunities to connect with attendees as well. Beyond being used as a platform for event schedules, directional assistance, and live broadcasting, the center’s digital signage also features interactive kiosks where attendees can obtain the latest airport schedules, Metro maps, and information on nearby attractions. In addition, the center is the second in the country to unveil the EventPath network, which seamlessly integrates event connectivity between the center and neighboring hotels and off-site facilities.
