Summer activities beckon, but the Greater Midwest Chapter committees are still working for you. Read more for updates on the Membership and Community Services Committees.
Tracy Riggan, chair of the Membership Committee, advises members with a June 30 renewal date to renew now and avoid a membership lapse. Her committee’s recent Phone-a-thon provided a personal reminder to members who needed to renew.
The July 30 Member Mixer at Pinstripes in Oak Brook offers “a great small group networking opportunity,” Tracy points out. You can register by clicking here!
Membership is also involved in planning the September GMC PCMA 20th Anniversary celebration. Keep an eye out for details as we honor our 20-year members and all our PCMA friends. As part of the celebration, the committee has interviewed several members. Look for those videos in upcoming GMC PCMA newsletters.
Aileen Laracuente, chair of the Community Services Committee, provided this report:
We are putting our final touches on our summer event for Off the Streets Club taking place on 7/17/13 11am-4pm at their Camp Mathieu in Wheaton. We are hosting a delicious picnic lunch followed by an afternoon of fun and games. You can still volunteer or make a donation to support the event. Kids’ ages range from 5-17 years old. Items still needed: goggles for swimming, bug spray, swim suits for boys and girls, athletic socks for boys and girls, board games (Monopoly, Connect Four, Operation, Risk, etc.) for late afternoon at camp or rainy days, outdoor games like Twister, individual jump ropes, etc. You can also donate a Target gift card and we will use it to buy items for the camp. To volunteer, email Kim Christianson, Event Chair, email@example.com or telephone 630-571-7848. To donate items or gift cards contact Aileen Laracuente, CSC Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 312-840-8090. Send items to 4980 N. Marine Drive Apt. 1535 Chicago IL 60640 to arrive no later than 7/15/13.
Regarding our search for the charity to be adopted by GMC PCMA in 2014, the committee carefully reviewed the submissions and concluded that, although each cause is worthwhile in its own right, none was completely consistent with our goal. We are now accepting additional submissions. Nominate a charitable organization that would be suitable for the financial benefit and volunteer commitment that GMC PCMA offers. Ideally we would like to concentrate on local (Chicago preferably) charities focused on the following areas:
- Developmentally/Mentally Handicapped
- Domestic Violence
- Animal Rights
This chore requires minimal effort on your part – all you need to do is get the attached application in the appropriate hands. We are requesting that new submissions be sent to Meaghan Daly by August 15, 2013. Here is Meaghan's contact information:

The new charity will be announced at the January 2014 chapter meeting after review and approval by the GMC PCMA Board of Directors.
