Join a Committee
To join a committee, complete the commitment to serve application and return it to PCMA Capital Chapter.
Committee members are expected to serve for at least one year.
- Committee service is strictly on a volunteer basis, with all incurred costs being the individual’s responsibility.
- You must be an active or affiliate member in good standing.
- You must commit to attending conference calls/meetings of your committee. Failure to attend may result in loss of committee appointment.
- You must complete tasks/projects for which you volunteer for the committee.
- If your committee is involved with particular programs, show your support by participating in the programs.
- A special effort will be made to include those interested members who have not previously served on a PCMA Capital Chapter committee.

The Communications Committee informs, educates and recognizes PCMA Capital Chapter members and promotes and enhances the image of PCMA, the Capital Chapter and the hospitality industry. The committee is primarily responsible for publishing the chapter newsletter, The Chatter. Committee members contribute topic ideas, author articles and edit the newsletter.
- Vision: To be the professional publication of choice for the convention and meeting industry in the Washington D.C. region.
- Mission: To provide a quality vehicle for information pertaining to events, members, education and sponsor recognition in print.
The Community Services Committee is responsible for creating a culture of giving back to the community through volunteerism and charitable contributions. Committee members create and organize volunteer opportunities for members.
- Vision: Work towards strengthening the overall image and social responsibility of the Capital Chapter through education and community involvement.
- Mission: To provide educational and networking opportunities while giving back to the community. Focusing on network for the needy, green and sustainable meetings an ethical and responsible business practices.
The Community Service Volunteer Group is for those members interested in participating in community service activities as a volunteer. Volunteers will be informed of community service opportunities as they are available.
The Emerging Professionals Committe
e (EPC) is dedicated to assisting the professional development for hospitality industry members with 0-5 years experience. Committee members will develop target-specific education program, participate in university outreach programs as panelists, and as well as promote .and implement the hands-on Mentorship and Shadowing Programs. EPC strives to provide the key tools to developing tomorrows hospitality professionals.
- Mission: Capital Chapter's Emerging Professionals Committee is dedicated to the professional development of students and hospitality industry members with 0-5 years of experience through outreach, mentorship, and shadowing opportunities.
The Government Relations and Advocacy Task Force
will monitor governmental actions that affect the hospitality and tourism industry and will educate members on governmental matters that affect their professional interests. The task force will also work to form partnerships on the local level with civically engaged professionals.
- Mission: PCMA Capital Chapter Government Relations committee will monitor governmental actions that affect the hospitality and tourism industry, will educate our members on governmental matters that affect their professional interests, and form partnerships on the local level with civically engaged professionals.
The Marketing Committee
is charged with promoting PCMA activities to the membership and the public through marketing and public relations. The committee has oversight responsibility for the chapter website and social media outlets. Committee members write and distribute press releases, contribute to marketing campaigns for chapter events, review the chapter website and assist with coordination of the chapter’s Facebook fan page, LinkedIn community and Twitter account.
- Vision: To be the committee that builds on PCMA Capital Chapters brand status as the top convention and meeting industry in Washington, DC.
- Mission: Create and implement a promotional strategy to optimize PCMA Capital Chapter’s communication to members about news, education and events in order to increase involvement and develop a recognizable and trusted brand.
The Membership Committee
is responsible for retention, recruitment and recognition of our members. The Committee promotes membership at all programs as well as working to recruit new members. We recognize active members within the chapter in a variety of ways during the year. All committee members participate in member outreach on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Vision: Supporting the three “R’s”: Recruitment, retention and recognition.
- Mission: The membership committee supports the Capital Chapter and its members to promote the value of their membership through recruitment, retention and recognition.
The Professional Development Committee is responsible for the planning and execution of all educational and social events for the Capital Chapter. The focus is on creating high-quality networking and educational opportunities for our local industry partners. Committee members oversee and manage the entire event process from content development to logistics to execution of the event. Committee members are required to be active in producing at least one chapter event per year.
- Vision: Be the leading provider of education to the conventions industry by enhancing members professional development. In addition, provide opportunities for collaboration between our members.
- Mission: Add value to PCMA membership by providing high-quality, relevant education to members to facilitate networking and the exchange of best practices. Programs will be held at local venues to be coordinated by the sponsorship committee.
The Sponsorship Committee
develops and sells specific sponsorship opportunities for companies interested in reaching the Capital Chapter membership. Committee members solicit sponsorships, foster sponsor relationships and liaison with confirmed sponsors before, during and after each event to ensure all sponsorship benefits have been fulfilled.

- Mission: Financially support the education mission of the Capital Chapter by recruiting and retaining venue and program sponsors.
The Sponsorship Services Sub-Committee will be responsible for working with our sponsors to ensure they are receiving all of their benefits and getting the most ROI from their support of the Capital Chapter.
