Albeit, not late December back in ’63, it has been a very special time for the Chapter. There’s so much and so many to recognize. First, please join me in recognizing the work and leadership of this year’s chapter board members. These folks have led their committees to shape the direction of the chapter and have dedicated countless hours toward the success of each of their areas. They continue to build on the momentum of the past months, and years, of their involvement toward providing better services the members of the southeast chapter.
And it goes without mentioning that the Chapter could not be successful without its committee volunteers. Without these volunteers, the strategies of the board would not become a reality, whether it’s raising dollars and donations, communicating (social media and traditional means), education or serving the underserved. We hope they will continue to volunteer with the chapter and we also hope that everyone here, who is not involved, will become involved. We’d like to extend a special welcome to the class of 2013. We are very fortunate that this group of professionals joined the chapter this year from throughout our 7 states, including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. We wish them a long and prosperous membership with the chapter.
Quality programming is one of the cornerstones for PCMA. The Chapter Programs Committee has done a tremendous job this year to explore key topics with industry leaders. The committee has reached out to a new pool of subject-matter experts to bring a fresh, new perspective to the opportunities that we all face in our day-to-day work.
The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children has been selected as the charity of choice for the Chapter. Through our community service efforts, we have collected toiletries, baby items and school supplies. Additionally, we served lunch at the Shelter and are planning the Chapter Service and Sync project for the Shelter on November 6. Please watch for the announcement coming soon to participate in this worthwhile event.
And now to the best part. It is such a thrill when we get to recognize our industry friends for their work and support, especially on behalf of the chapter.
First, we’d like to give congratulate our Volunteer of the Quarters, Bonnie Wallsh, Jordan Lawson and Charlene Lopez. The have all contributed greatly to the Chapter this year. Our Volunteer of the Year received one of this year’s Volunteer of the Quarter and her tireless pursuit of quality education is truly her passion. Please join me in congratulating Bonnie Wallsh.
We are so proud of one of our own. Lori Costa received a one year Disney Destinations PCMA Education Foundation scholarship. According to them, her essay clearly showed a desire to enhance not only her own career, but also the future of the meetings industry. Congratulations Lori.
The Southeast Chapter is fortunate to have great representation at the National Level. Ann Godi, President & CEO of Benchmarc360, Inc. has been elected to the PCMA Board of Directors for 2014. We congratulate Ann for all her past and future accomplishments with PCMA.
So that wraps up some of the highlights from 2013. It’s been a great year, but we’re not done yet. 2014 is just around the corner and we will have lots more in store for the chapter, including the chapter reception at Convening Leaders where we do our Annual Silent Auction; our 2014 educational programs and much more.
