Call for Volunteers

Each year NYPCMA prepares a calendar of events that includes outstanding educational programs, several community service projects and many wonderful networking opportunities.  Needless to say, these activities could not happen without our volunteers.

There is an old adage that says, "the more you put into something, the more you get out of it."  That is certainly the case with PCMA.  In reviewing the list of opportunities you will see there are spots for people who want to really be involved and service possibilities for those that can only commit a little time or must serve from a distance.  Volunteering in our chapter is both rewarding professionally as well as personally through the connections you will gain and the lifelong friends you will make.

We are continually planning for the year and opportunities for service are abundant.  We look forward to hearing from you on how you would like to be involved.

Committee: Community Services

What We Do: We lead charitable initiatives for the chapter.  We have focused on helping feed hungry people.  We also support Clean the World by asking members to collect toiletries for donation.
Goals for the Year: Raise 2500 pounds of food for City Harvest; Collect 100 pounds of toiletries for Clean the World; Have a Team of at least 20 for the March of Dimes, March for Babies.
How Often Committee Meets:  As needed, but usually via phone and email.
Labor Hours Per Month: 1-2
Where We Need Help:  Promoting our food drive, soliciting donations for Education Day raffle,  getting people to get involved in the March for Babies (Marketing);  General ideas to support our causes.

Committee: Awards & Recognition / New Professionals & Students

What We Do:
Awards & Recognition - This committee is responsible for working with the board to identify and recognize outstanding partners, supporters, and members whose contributions are above and beyond in scope each year. Awarding scholarships for Convening Leaders also fall under this committee’s duties, which include setting the criteria, advertisement, logistics, design, procurement, pre & post marketing efforts, announcing and presentation of the award are the sole responsibility of this committee.
New Professionals & Students – This committee is responsible for engaging and working with students and new professionals
Goals for the Year:
Gather information on what other PCMA chapters with a strongly engaged membership do for awards and recognition.   Review, compare and contrast awards & recognition program and create recommendations for embellishments. Build new professional and student engagement platform that will help sustain the volunteerism culture of PCMA. Create a list of student volunteers to refer to when volunteers are needed.
How Often Committee Meets:   Virtual - as needed.  In person – once per quarter
Labor Hours Per Month: Varies based on project – 2-4 hours per month approximately
Where We Need Help:
Awards & Recognition; Gathering info on other chapters’ awards programs, comparing against NYPCMA, making recommendations on improvements to how our chapter recognizes individual’s efforts. 
New professionals & Students; Creating a platform for engagement that we can follow to get new professionals/students engaged in volunteering in NYPCMA, developing a list of volunteers that have expressed interest in volunteering.

Committee: Sponsor/Patron Relations
Chair: Gayle Weisman - g.weisman@comsoc.org
What We Do: Solicit and secure sponsorship. Provide fulfillment of sponsors for each program.
Goals for the Year:  Have sponsorship for each program.  Secure annual sponsorships.  Engage with new partners for potential future sponsorship.
How Often Committee Meets: The committee meets via conference call when needed.  Most work is done via email.
Labor Hours Per Month: This position requires about 4 -5 hours per month.
Where We Need Help: Contacting potential new sponsors, following up with sponsors on what they need for certain programs, -reaching out for gifts and prizes if unable to sponsor

Committee:      Program Committee

What We Do: The Committee is responsible for deciding on the topics/programming/logistics/speaker invitations for the following Chapter events: 

  • February –         Education Day
  • April –               Program with a Mixer
  • June -               Bowling Social
  • July -                Focus Group and Mixer
  • September –      Program with a mixer
  • October -           Mixer
Goals for the Year: Run smooth programs with cutting edge topics and speakers
How Often Committee Meets:1 in person meeting before the event (if necessary to see site).
2-3 months before each event – 1 hour conference call (3-4x)
Labor Hours Per Month: 1-2 hours per week 2-3 months before the event.
Where We Need Help: Identifying hot topics and speakers and seeking venues.

Committee: Membership

What We Do: This committee promotes and maintains the growth of the chapter. 

  • NYPCMA Planner Focus group / 1 person
  • NYPCMA Mixers / 2 people
  • NYPCMA Membership Survey 2014 / 1 person
  • NYPCMA Growth and Retention Targets 2014 / 1 person

Goals for the Year: Welcome new members and ensure existing members renew their annual memberships.
How Often Committee Meets:  As needed, but usually via phone and email.
Labor Hours Per Month: 1-2
Where We Need Help:  Assisting with the focus group and mixers, contacting members when their membership is due to expire, brainstorming ways to keep our members engaged in the chapter.

Committee: Marketing/Communications
Chair: Stacey Courtney – scourtney@mla.org
What We Do: This committee produces a quarterly Newsletter and keeps our members updated with current industry news and events. 
Goals for the Year: Produce a quarterly newsletter, update the existing newsletter format, increase our social media engagement, explore new avenues for marketing our events.
How Often Committee Meets:  As needed, but usually via phone and email.
Labor Hours Per Month: 1-2
Where We Need Help:  We need people to submit articles, assist with editing, take photos and keep us updated on what's new in our diverse geographic region.
