Like so many GMC member planners who are busy with details for fall meetings and events, the Student Membership Committee is “waist deep in planning our annual Fall Student Program,” according to Jim LaBadie, CASE, committee member. “The program will occur October 4 this year on campus at Northern Illinois University in Naperville” and is open to all event management students and faculty.
The committee’s program goals are:
- To introduce you to others in this industry, both veterans and young professionals.
- Tell you what this industry is about, what’s happening and where it’s going.
- Help you find your own path to a career.
Although this year’s agenda is still being finalized, the 2012 program provides clues about the quality and type of content planned for 2013. An overview of the hospitality industry began the program. Panelists represented different facets of the industry: hotels, convention and visitors bureaus, associations, corporations, and decorators. Breakouts provided small group discussions with each speaker. Luncheon speakers were industry leaders.
Afternoon sessions drilled down to specific subjects. Industry resources, obtaining a job, and what meeting planners do are sample 2012 topics. During a power networking fair, students networked with industry veterans. The program concluded with an invitation-only roundtable for student chapter officers.
This program is being designed for you, the student. Mark your calendar for October 4 and look for program details in future GMC newsletters.
