Please join us on Thursday, November 7 for our Service In Sync Day project at the Capital Area Food Bank!

The Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) serves nearly 500,000 people in the Washington, DC region struggling with hunger. There has been a tremendous increase (30-100%) in those seeking food assistance due to job loss, the economy, high cost of housing, lack of health care, and other issues. 

Volunteers will work in the DC Warehouse (4900 Puerto Rico Avenue, NE, Washington, DC) inspecting the donated food and sorting into bins or re-packaging into useable sizes for their partner agencies.

CAFB by the Numbers

The Capital Area Food Bank:

  • Distributes 27.5 million meals annually
  • Serves nearly 500,000 people in the region struggling with hunger
  • Delivers 120 fresh produce drops each month to 90 sites throughout the Washington, DC metro area
  • Spends 92 cents of each dollar raised for food distribution, transportation and programs

Volunteer Shifts

There will be two shifts this year: 
9:00 a.m.–12:00 Noon & 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

Lunch is being sponsored by La Madeleine for both groups at 12:00 Noon.

CAFB provides a shuttle from the Brookland/CUA Metro. The shuttle arrives on the 10th Street NE side near the metro elevator where other shuttle buses/vans are servicing the metro station The shuttle will have a Capital Area Food Bank sign in the front window. If you do not see the shuttle van upon arrival or if you are running late, please call the shuttle line at 202-905-4260 to request a ride.

2016 PCMA Capital Chapter Board of Directors Meetings   Meetings will start promptly at 9:00 am commencing with a 15 minute Open Forum.  Chapter members are invited to attend the meeting and participate in the open forum.
