Much has changed throughout incoming PCMA Education Foundation Chairman Gregg Talley's 30-year career in the meetings industry, but one piece of his professional life has remained constant.
"I've been closely involved with PCMA throughout my entire career," Gregg says.
That career started early, too. Gregg's entry into the industry came at the age of 17 when he worked with his father to manage events in Washington, D.C. From registration to session room checks to monitoring the exhibit floor, Gregg's early days in the industry helped him understand the many angles of what it takes to execute successful meetings.
After working with the Baltimore CVB and a large meeting management firm, he and his father, Bob, decided to launch Talley Management Group in 1987. Gregg says that PCMA was instrumental in helping him build a network of contacts that helped fuel TMG's success. Today, as TMG celebrates its 25th anniversary of association and event management, that network is even stronger.
"As I look through my list of contacts, it's incredible to see the wide range of people that I can pick up and call simply because we've worked together at PCMA," Gregg says.
The Around-the-World Impact of PCMA
That list of contacts continues to expand well beyond the borders of North America. As Gregg continues to devote his time and energy to PCMA and the PCMA Education Foundation, he says that he's particularly excited to see the organization expand its leadership to the international realm.
"PCMA is playing a growing role on the global side of the events industry," Gregg says. "I'm looking forward to seeing the organization continue to be a leader in this area and help professionals in emerging areas of the world understand the North American market and vice versa."
Gregg is no stranger to those emerging markets, either. Over the past few years, his personal and professional travels have taken him to destinations including China, Singapore, Scotland, Brazil, Kenya and France.
"I've sensed first-hand the interest and hunger for quality education throughout my travels," Gregg says. "Many of our colleagues around the world look to PCMA as a leader."
