CHICAGO, IL January 13, 2014 – The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau (Dallas CVB) have partnered together in a forward-thinking initiative supported by the PCMA Education Foundation to inspire new, innovative ideas in the meetings and conventions and tourism industry. The year-long uber-strategic partnership kicks off with the BIG IDEAS initiative at Convening Leaders on January 12-15, 2014 in Boston at the Hynes Convention Center.

As part of the BIG IDEAS initiative, PCMA Convening Leaders attendees from various sectors and cities across the world will discover and share BIG IDEAS, and learn about the innovations and challenges transforming the industry by experts. At the conference, the Big IDEA Zone will provide an on-site gathering place for attendees to share BIG IDEAS through real-time video, whiteboard brainstorming and social media channels, while collaboratively working with peers and thought leaders. Meeting industry professionals and followers are encouraged to share BIG IDEAS through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #BigIdeasCL.

“The BIG IDEAS initiative isn’t just about coming up with a transformational million dollar idea, we want to encourage the industry to continuously have open conversations that will move it forward and enact positive change,” says Deborah Sexton, President and CEO, PCMA. “The BIG IDEAS initiative will bring to light areas where the meetings industry can innovate so we can continue to define trends and not be defined by them.”

“BIG IDEAS fuel industry growth by proving that taking risks delivers tangible and forward-thinking results for a vibrant, strong future,” said Phillip J. Jones, president/CEO of the Dallas CVB. “It is these ideas combined with optimism and perseverance that can drive change for the meetings and conventions industry, which is a major economic engine for the country.”

The uber partnership between PCMA and Dallas CVB and the quest for BIG IDEAS extends beyond PCMA Convening Leaders by offering industry-wide benefits for meeting planners and destinations such as providing a forum to compare best practices, generate new ideas, provide networking opportunities, develop professional skills, advocate for industry change and learn first-hand from top industry leaders from PCMA and Dallas, a city known for being thought-leader with BIG, innovative ideas as reflected in its new tagline – BIG Things Happen Here.
