A happy employee is a productive employee, right? A number of studies over the years have proved this to be true. Here are six ways to help boost office morale.
1. Offer professional development opportunities.
Think of this as an investment. You invest in the employee, and in return, you get a smarter and more motivated worker. Giving employees the chance to learn outside of the office and grow their skill-set doesn’t just make them feel valued. It makes them better at their job.
2. Office competitions.
These can provide a nice change of pace to get your mind off that ever-expanding task list while giving your staff something to talk about as a group besides their work duties. Biggest loser challenges are extremely popular right now. In fact, we just finished one at PCMA.
3. Two words: free food.
I'm taking a page right out of the PCMA playbook here. While Friday itself is a morale boost, we crank ours up a little more with Breakfast Club. Every Friday a different employee brings in breakfast for the staff who wish to participate. It is delicious and doesn't cost the company a dime.
4. Deliver the freedom of flex hours
Commuting is quite possibly the most hated task of some people's day. Why would you want your employees starting and ending their days with a defeated and cranky attitude? Traditional business hours are becoming part of the past. Think about letting them start and end a little later to avoid the rush hour craziness.
5. It's time to party.
This one is self-explanatory, people love parties. Celebrate everything (to a reasonable extent): birthdays, holidays, company achievements, new office furniture... everything!
6. Listen to and empower staff.
Last but certainly not least, it is invaluable to get your employees input and make them feel like they have a say in where the company is going. The more they see their ideas coming to life, the more they will keep churning them out.
