Leading Meeting Professionals

Professional Convention Management Association

PCMA Headquarters volunteer appointments are made by the PCMA Chair-Elect. Terms officially begin January 14, 2016 and end during PCMA Convening Leaders, of the following year. Volunteer appointments are made based on your past involvement and participation as a PCMA volunteer, indication of skills and strengths, and the needs of PCMA. Every effort will be made to make use of your time and talents in a way that will be meaningful to you and beneficial to PCMA. See below for current opportunities.

  • The Education Conference Content Committee (ECCC) will begin activities in late summer of 2015. If interested in serving on this committee you must respond to the call for volunteers no later than August 7.

Please note: Committee and task force terms are for one year only and do not automatically renew. If you served on a committee or task force and would like to serve again, you must submit a Call for Volunteers form.

Volunteer Opportunity Types:

  • Standing Committee:  committee dictated by the by-laws of the Board of Directors, generally required on an annual basis.  Typically handling tasks that need to be carried out regularly
  • Special Committee:  sometimes called Ad-Hoc, these committees perform specific tasks and automatically ceases to exist when a final report is issued or continues until the new assignment is completed and another report is submitted
  • Task Force:  formation of a Task Force is to work on a single defined task or activity.  Often one to two years maximum.
  • Advisory Group:  a body that provides non-binding advice to management/organization leadership. Informal nature of an advisory board gives greater flexibility in structure and management

Volunteer Appointment Process

Once you complete the Volunteer Form, you can expect the following:

  • August 7 - Call for Volunteers to serve on the Education Conference Content Committee closes

  • August 31 – Call for Volunteers closes (Exception: Education Conference Content Committee)

  • Early November – Volunteers are emailed details of assignments and will be asked to complete Commitment to Serve and Conflict of Interest Forms
