2009 Chapter Board Positions

CHAPTER NOMINATIONS

Be a part of something special by volunteering in your local PCMA chapter.

For many years I stood on the side lines thinking I didn't have the time to spare to get involved and thought to myself I'll leave it up to someone else. I can tell you that your time is a function of making it happen. The truth is we are all busy but we always manage to figure out a way to accomplish the tasks at hand.

There is the old adage " you get what you put into something" and this so true and has been since I took the plunge and decided to become an active member of chapter by participating on the board, as an officer and most recently helping out with our chapters nominations. Networking with your peers, making new friendships, camaraderie, and the feeling that you doing something worthwhile and giving back to your industry are just a few of the reasons to act and become involved.

How? It is very simple. Below we've listed the current officer and board positions for our chapter. If you are interested in a specific position or would like to participate on a committee that is another way to get started and test the waters with a minimal time commitment.

If you are interested all you have to do is email: Mike Ditter

Timeline:

July 21 - nominating committee will be review the list of members who have expressed an interest in a board position

August 15 - mail out slate to all members with final nominations

September 1 - confirm all positions

President
The president is elected for a one-year term to coordinate the board and chapter activities. This officer may be a Professional member or a Supplier Partner in good standing with PCMA. The one-year term may be extended if the chapter so dictates and the membership votes accordingly.
Responsibilities:
Serves as the chief elected officer, is the official representative of the chapter, and presides at all meetings of the chapter and board of directors. The president is the top-ranking officer selected by the membership to lead and direct the activities of the chapter. This office, in cooperation with the board, is responsible for general management of the chapter and the development of group efforts to achieve the organizations' mission. Communication leads to involvement and recognition leads to continued involvement. A chapter president who communicates regularly and effectively with the members and the board who recognizes their efforts will generate continued interest and motivation of those he or she leads.

President-Elect
The president-elect is elected for a one-year term to serve on the board of directors in conducting the affairs of the chapter.
Responsibilities:
Performs the duties of the president in case of the president's absence or inability to act. The president-elect is an aide and alternate to the president. The president-elect is required to assume the office of the president in the event the president resigns or is permanently absent, unless otherwise stated in the chapter bylaws. Serves as a board liaison on the chapter membership committee.

Treasurer
The treasurer is elected for a one year term or two-year term (refer to chapter bylaws) to serve on the board of directors in conducting the affairs of the chapter. The treasurer is an important officer of an organization, entrusted with the custody of the funds. The treasurer should know how to handle money, make deposits, reconcile bank statements with the treasurer's records, and make reports.
Responsibilities:
Manages the financial affairs of the chapter. Serves as chair of the finance Committee.

Directors
The board of directors is traditionally elected for a term of one year; however board member terms may vary by chapter (two year terms, staggered terms, etc). The board of directors is charged with the overall responsibility of conducting the affairs of the chapters.
Responsibilities:
Acts in the best interest of the membership by conforming to the purposes for which the chapter was formed as outlined in the chapter bylaws. It would be helpful to review the PCMA and chapter bylaws, along with the policies of the chapter. It is advisable that the chapter board members review and sign off on the documents to reflect their understanding with these important documents.

Committee Chairs
Committee chairs are appointed annually by the president after approval by the board of directors. For smaller chapters, board members themselves may be committee chairs as well. Chairs should select committee members upon consultation with the president. Committee membership is a privilege and should be a balance of personalities and talents.
Responsibilities:
Committee chairs assume responsibility for fulfilling the objectives of their committees at the beginning of each calendar year.
