Show us Your Green: Apply for the Capital Chapter's NEW Green Award

Have you reduced the carbon footprint of your association's meetings? Is your venue taking steps to minimize waste and conserve energy? Whether you're just beginning to adopt green practices or whether you've already taken significant steps toward becoming more eco-friendly, the PCMA Capital Chapter Green Awards are a chance to showcase your organization's green efforts and be recognized by your peers.

The Capital Chapter Green Meeting Awards were created to help encourage chapter members to implement green policies and practices and to applaud the efforts of organizations who already are taking steps to lessen their environmental impact.

All chapter members - both planners and suppliers- are eligible to apply for the award. Awards will be presented in two categories, "Emerging Green" and "Green Leader." Emerging Green awards will be given to members who have just started taking steps to become more environmentally responsible. The Green Leader award will recognize planners and suppliers whose organizations have well-established green strategies, with measurable impact. A total of four awards will be presented - two for planners and two for suppliers. Recipients will be honored at the annual chapter meeting and awards ceremony in November.

"Our industry has a responsibility to do what it can to help make our world a littler greener," said Capital Chapter President William "Bill" Reed, CMP. "By sharing the success stories of members who are making that commitment, we hope that others will be inspired to do the same."

PCMA headquarters also has developed a new award, The Environmental Leadership Award, which will be presented at the 2009 Annual PCMA Meeting in New Orleans. This award will celebrate the achievements of a person or organization that promote sustainable environmental efforts in the world. Criteria can be found in the "Awards and Recognition" section on the PCMA national Web site www.pcma.org. Capital Chapter members are encouraged to apply for both the chapter and national awards.
