PCMA Donates $40,000 to Philadelphia Charities During the PCMA 2006 Annual Meeting

On Sunday, an. 8, PCMA's Hospitality Helping Hands event took approximately 100 PCMA members to the Stenton Park Recreation Center and the Nicetown Boys & Girls Club in Philadelphia for some much needed painting, cleaning, and repairs. After the event, both organizations accepted donation checks of $4,000 on behalf of those who volunteered and the event's sponsors Conferon and Marriott.

The community service spirit continued on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Finnigan's Wake, which hosted PCMA's 13th annual Party With a Purpose. About 800 attendees enjoyed three floors of music, dancing, and networking while raising more than $30,000 for the Eliza Shirley House, a local Philadelphia charity that provides emergency shelter services and basic needs care packages for homeless single women and families.

All PCMA Headquarter Committee Members and Chapter Volunteers are invited to attend the 2006 Leadership & Governance Conference, June 26-28 in Dallas. Following last year's conference, 85 percent of the attendees rated the overall content excellent, and 98 percent said the conference was worth their time to attend. This year's conference promises to be even more rewarding, and the registration fee is free to all headquarters and chapter volunteers.

Sexton Honored as Meeting Industry Star

The New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) Education & Research Foundation celebrated it Sixth Annual Parade of Stars on Feb. 6, saluting five "women meeting industry stars." Deborah Sexton, PCMA president and CEO, was among those honored.

The four other recipients of NYSAE's Vision Award were Susan Sarfati, CAE, president and CEO, the Center for Association Leadership and executive VP, American Society of Association Executives; Christie Hicks, senior VP, global sales, Starwood Hotels & Resorts; Mary Power, CAE, president and CEO, Convention Industry Council, and Charlotte St. Martin, president and CEO, Charlotte St. Martin Enterprises. St. Martin was also the first recipient of the Preston Robert Tisch Humanitarian Award, which recognizes a long-term commitment to humanity worldwide.

St. Martin served as PCMA Education Foundation Chair from 1996-1999, and Hicks is a PCMA Education Foundation Trustee.
