Las Vegas
The Association Meeting Manager's Guide
Letter From the President:
Getting Down to Business in Las Vegas
Dear Meeting Manager:
With first-class accommodations, dining, shopping, and entertainment, Las Vegas is well known as the premier leisure and business destination in the world. A commitment to customer service makes Las Vegas the perfect place for your meetings and conventions. Las Vegas resorts are dedicated to attending to the needs of their customers, and corporate clients are certainly valued clientele. The destination is a leader in embracing advances in technology, connectivity, and other business amenities. From lavish board rooms and grand ballrooms to high-tech meeting and presentation rooms, Las Vegas resorts go out of their way to make sure your meeting is the most productive and successful possible.
Las Vegas continues to grow, with approximately $30 billion in resort construction projects slated to be completed by the end of 2010, including The Palazzo, Cosmopolitan, W Las Vegas, CityCenter, Echelon Place, Encore, and more. Each new project includes ample space to serve the meeting planner, adding to the existing 9.5 million square feet of meeting and convention space citywide. Las Vegas also boasts three of the 10 largest convention facilities in the country, including the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), Sands Expo Center, and Mandalay Bay Convention Center. And another large-scale meetings and convention facility is planned to open at Echelon Place at the end of the decade.
Transportation is also a key element for which Las Vegas has allocated ample resources. Located just minutes from McCarran International Airport, the majority of Las Vegas' top meeting facilities are easily and conveniently accessible by taxi cab, shuttle bus, and limousine. The Las Vegas Monorail provides a convenient alternative to rental cars and taxi cabs, stopping at seven locations along the east side of the Strip. The CAT bus system provides access along the Strip and connections to downtown Las Vegas aboard new British-style, double-decker Deuce buses.
And, as always, it is hard to compete with Las Vegas for amenities your delegates can enjoy after the workday is through. The destination continues to provide the best in entertainment options, with world-class shows such as The Beatles' "Love" by Cirque du Soleil, "Phantom: the Las Vegas Spectacular," "The Producers," and the debut of "Monty Python's Spamalot." First-class dining opportunities continue to expand in Las Vegas, with legendary names such as Joël Robuchon, Alain Ducasse, and Daniel Boulud, and celebrity names like Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, and Bobby Flay serving up dishes.
Las Vegas resorts also recognize their customers' need to relax; as a result, they have some of the best spas around, some available 24 hours a day. Furthermore, the destination is home to unsurpassed shopping, including a host of retail venues including The Fashion Show mall, The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, Mandalay Place, Wynn Las Vegas, and more. These centers feature high-end retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Hugo Boss, Jimmy Choo, and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Las Vegas is focused on making your meeting or convention - no matter the size and scope - the greatest event your organization has hosted. Contact us at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to get your event started.
Sincerely,
Rossi Ralenkotter
President and CEO

Las Vegas continues to build upon its reputation as a vibrant showcase for the extraordinary. This is the city that astonishes and delights more than 38 million visitors a year by offering the grandest hotels, the biggest stars in entertainment, the highest caliber of award-winning chefs and master sommeliers, and, of course, the brightest lights.
World-Class Cuisine
When planning an evening of entertainment, look to the growing roster of gourmet restaurants and unparalleled food and wine adventures in Las Vegas. A host of fine dining and lifestyle magazines - including Bon Appetit, Wine Spectator, Robb Report, Gourmet, and Esquire - have honored the city for its fantastic fare and hailed individual restaurants for their exquisite cuisine, created by the likes of Bradley Ogden, Hubert Keller, Alain Ducasse, Emeril Lagasse, and Wolfgang Puck. To accompany its growing list of world-class chefs, Las Vegas has attracted more master sommeliers than any other U.S. city.
An array of new restaurants have recently come on the scene. At Lake Las Vegas, Chef Joseph Keller has opened Bistro Zinc at the Monte Lago Village. With a prime location that overlooks the lake, Bistro Zinc boasts a menu filled with Cajun flavors. Another new entrant, Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace, occupies the second floor of the property's Augustus Tower. Managing the Michelin three-star French chef's only U.S. restaurant is his son and protégé, Franck Savoy.
Additionally, noted restaurateurs Miae Lim and Rick Wahlstedt have opened Japonais at The Mirage. The restaurant blends Japanese and European cuisine and offers a distinct menu of hot and cold Asian specialties.
Entertainment Capital
Year round, Las Vegas offers unmatched entertainment from the Strip to downtown, guaranteed to impress with such acts as Cirque du Soleil's KA (MGM Grand), showgirl classics "Jubilee!" (Bally's) and "Splash!" (Riviera), and comics Penn & Teller (Rio) and Carrot Top (Luxor).
Joining headliners Celine Dion (Caesars Palace), Barry Manilow (Las Vegas Hilton), and "Mamma Mia!" (Mandalay Bay) is a whole new entertainment lineup. Cirque du Soleil's "LOVE" (The Mirage), based on the music of The Beatles, is presented in a custom-built theater featuring 360-degree seating and high-definition projections with 100-foot digital, moving images in addition to a panoramic sound system. "Phantom - The Las Vegas Spectacular" (The Venetian) is now permanently housed in a $40 million theater. The 95-minute production includes every song from the original Andrew Lloyd Webber production. A recent début is Mel Brooks' Broadway hit, "The Producers" at Paris Las Vegas; it is the only production of the Broadway musical west of the Mississippi River.
R&B singer and six-time Grammy award winner Toni Braxton recently took the stage at her new show, "Toni Braxton: Revealed" (Flamingo), and Rita Rudner brings her unique comedic sense and witty commentary to Harrah's Las Vegas.
Shoppers' Paradise
In recent years, Las Vegas has become a discerning shopper's paradise, as world-class brands have made their way into fantastic resort shopping venues. Forum Shops at Caesars continues to expand and bring new stores and restaurants to Las Vegas, including Harry Winston, Ted Baker, Nanette Lepore, Juicy Couture, Sushi Roku, and Il Mulino. In keeping with its name, Fashion Show includes an elevated runway for staging special promotions - as well as fashion shows.
At The Venetian, the Grand Canal Shoppes features an authentic reproduction of Venice's Grand Canal (complete with gondolas) and a replica of St. Mark's Square, which serves as the centerpiece of the mall. Among the more than 70 shops, restaurants, and attractions are Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Davidoff, In Celebration of Golf, and Mikimoto, as well as restaurants such as the Delmonico Steakhouse and Pinot Brasserie.
In keeping with the Bellagio resort's luxurious setting, Via Bellagio offers exquisite fashion and jewelry collections from Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Prada, Chanel, Tiffany & Co., Dior, and Fred Leighton. Down the Strip, Wynn Esplanade features an Oscar de la Renta boutique and Jean Paul Gaultier designer store - the designers' firsts in this country. Also among the top clothing brands is the Penske-Wynn showroom, home to the hotel's Ferrari-Maserati dealership.
Getting a good deal is always in style, and Las Vegas boasts two outlet centers that feature top brands. Las Vegas Premium Outlets offers A/X Armani Exchange, Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Guess, Kenneth Cole, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger, and many more. The Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas features more than 100 brand name stores, among them DKNY, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, Williams-Sonoma, and Harley-Davidson.
Fields of Green
Las Vegas is also world-renowned for the abundance and quality of its golf courses. In fact, it recently was named the top emerging golf destination in the world by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. More than 60 courses are within a one-hour radius of the city, each with its own character and attributes. The year-round golfing weather offers a pleasant reprieve for attendees from colder climates, while courses designed by the top names in golf - including Nicklaus, Fazio, Dye, Jones, Weiskopf, Casper, and Palmer - contribute to a memorable experience.
The city's passion for pizzazz doesn't end where the fairways begin. Several "only in Vegas-" style courses are equally sure to please serious and recreational golfers. Badlands Golf Club, designed by Johnny Miller and Chi Chi Rodriguez - Las Vegas' first public 27-hole facility - was named as one of Nevada's Top 10 golf courses by Golf Digest magazine. The Legacy Golf Club facility, designed by Arthur Hills, features tee boxes on the 10th hole that take the shape of each suit in a deck of cards: spades, clubs, diamonds, and hearts.
Relax and Recharge
The spa experience has arrived in Las Vegas. Now home to five Mobil Four-Star Spas, more than any other city in the country, Las Vegas' resorts provide the most luxurious and varied spa experiences anywhere. For example, the Spa at Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa & Casino pampers guests in 28 private treatment rooms, a 74-meter lap pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a full-service salon, and outdoor-accessible steam room. Spa Vita di Lago at the AAA Five Diamond Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas, named one of America's top spas in the Mobil Travel Guide's 2005 edition of "America's Best Hotel & Resort Spas," offers 24 treatment rooms, extensive indoor and outdoor fitness and recreation facilities.
The BATHHOUSE at Mandalay Bay's THEhotel is being heralded as one of the trendiest spas on the Strip. The spa showcases a simple, yet elegant decor and offers a multitude of exquisite treatments, ranging from champagne facials to crème brulée body wraps. The Spa at The Palms houses an 18,000-square-foot, three-story spa, including a Waterworks Suite featuring outdoor water therapy and water massage therapy, multiple spa treatment rooms, an aromatherapy bar, relaxation lounges, a fitness center, and an exercise studio.
Canyon Ranch SpaClub at The Venetian features a 65,000-square-foot facility offering skin care and body treatment rooms, movement therapy and Pilates studios, Watsu pools, and a medical/wellness center, among other amenities. It is also the largest spa resort not only in Las Vegas, but also in North America.
Sizzling Nightlife
The city famous for having "something for everyone" really proves this claim when the sun goes down. After dinner, delegates can experience a variety of nightspots with personalities as varied as their own.
From elaborately themed clubs to the new wave of upscale "ultra lounges" sweeping the Strip, attendees can choose from a wide array of offerings, including Ivan Kane's Forty Deuce (Mandalay Bay), Pure (Caesars Palace), Tao (The Venetian), Whiskey Bar (Green Valley Ranch), and Tryst (Wynn Las Vegas).
The new upscale lounge at MGM Grand, Rouge showcases a deep red and black contemporary design. Las Vegas' first Playboy Club nightclub, atop the new Fantasy Tower at The Palms, showcases the iconic Playboy bunnies, as well as a Diamond Bar constructed of 10,000 diamond-shaped crystals.
With hip surroundings, signature drinks, and an "anything goes" attitude, ultra lounges are redefining Vegas nightlife, providing a new way to party on the Strip.
LVCVA Receives Kudos From Markets Abroad
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has received three distinguished honors for outstanding achievement in its efforts to expand the tourism and travel markets in China and Brazil. The United States Department of Commerce honored the LVCVA with the U.S. Commercial Service Export Achievement Certificate for international trade show missions by Vice President of Convention Center Sales Chris Meyer and Sales Executive of Diversity Marketing Rafael Villanueva.
Meanwhile, Margot Allen, regional representative for Senator John Ensign, presented a special recognition to the LVCVA for its international marketing campaign, and Arcadio Bolanos, regional representative for Congressman Jon C. Porter, recognized Meyer with a special achievement award recorded in the Library of Congress.
In 2005 and 2006, the LVCVA worked with the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Las Vegas to execute two trade show missions: one in China and one in Brazil, realizing an export value of $4.5 million. The United States has experienced growth in arrivals from China and Brazil of 33 and 26 percent respectively. Growth in these markets is expected to continue over the next four years.

GES
State-of-theArft Technology Streamlines Ordering Process
The industry has long seen the use of print exhibitor service manuals or kits to convey to exhibitors information about all the rules, regulations, and forms related to an event. While these manuals are vital in order for exhibitors to experience flawless trade shows, they can often be cumber- some, time-consuming to navigate, and not especially user-friendly. Even as increasing numbers of exhibitors switch to CD format from the traditional paper catalogs, they are still required to complete forms by hand and submit them via fax or mail for manual input.
That is why GES Exposition Services has unveiled GES IntellikitSM, a state-of-the-art trade show technology that serves as the answer to streamlining the ordering process for exhibitors. With GES IntellikitSM, exhibitors can easily order products and services by filling out the kit electronically and sending it back to GES via bar-coded fax or online. The GES IntellikitSM process will enable GES to easily process 1,200 orders per day, conserve paper usage, reduce human error, and create faster, more efficient processing.
GES IntellikitSM affords exhibitors a wide variety of advantages over printed materials and CDs alike. Just like CDs, GES IntellikitSM is portable and can be distributed either on a CD, or via the Internet. It costs show management no more than a conventional CD exhibitor manual.
GES IntellikitSM uses a new technology from Adobe to create smart forms. Exhibitors simply fill out these forms directly on their computers; totals and early bird discounts are automatically calculated. Once this step has been completed, an automated summary of the exhibitor's order is generated.
What's more, unlike printed manuals and CDs, GES IntellikitSM makes it easy for exhibitors to locate information. Different sections of data are readily available. In addition to being submitted electronically, forms generated using the kit can be readily shared among colleagues. Exhibitors need only save them to their computers and e-mail them as attachments.
"GES IntellikitSM will transform the way exhibitors order services, saving exhibitors time and improving accuracy," said Kevin Rabbitt, GES president and chief executive officer. "This is another example of how GES leads the way in providing technological solutions to show organizers and exhibitors participating in expositions and events."
An online demo will be available to GES clients to help exhibitors get a quick handle on the product.

REWARD AND BE REWARDED
Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah's Entertainment offers planners more with its exclusive
Meeting Diamond program.
Created to recognize meeting planners as VIPs across all six of Harrah's Entertainment's Las Vegas properties, and to give planners an opportunity to recognize and reward their VIPs, the Meeting Diamond program entitles designees to a variety of benefits and rewards.
Meeting planners who book groups into any Harrah's Entertainment Las Vegas property will automatically be granted Meeting Diamond status, and will have an opportunity to obtain Meeting Diamond privileges for select VIPs within their group. "Meeting Diamonds" receive benefits that are similar to those enjoyed by Diamond Level Casino players, including guaranteed priority service at the front desk, restaurants, clubs, and business centers, as well as access to any of the members-only Diamond Lounges located at each property.
"This program for meeting planners is a unique experience," commented planner Terry Wong after a conference he planned and managed for the Healthcare Financial Management Association. "I liked being recognized as a person who needed immediate attention. I think the program also helps their staff, because they know who has the authority to make certain decisions, and it streamlines that process, making for an excellent experience."
In addition to the benefits afforded to planners, the new program gives them an opportunity to recognize and reward Harrah's Entertainment team members who have gone above and beyond to serve them during their stay. At the conclusion of a conference, planners are asked to choose two individuals whom they feel served them best. The selected individuals receive a $100 gift certificate to use at any Harrah's Entertainment restaurant in Las Vegas and are entered into a quarterly drawing for an all-expense-paid vacation for two. With each property managing close to 150 meetings per month, Harrah's expects to award roughly 10,000 team members per year. This million-dollar investment is a prime example of Harrah's Entertainment's commitment to providing phenomenal customer service and rewarding those employees who exemplify that purpose.
Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah's Entertainment: Imagine the Possibilities
An opening reception at Harrah's. Conferences at Bally's and Paris. Guest rooms at Caesars Palace and Flamingo. A closing gala dinner at Rio. All with one contact, one contract, and one master bill. And all the while, you and your VIPs will enjoy Diamond recognition no matter which of our resorts you're at. Here's what else:

The stunning new lobby sets a classic but contemporary tone. Tempo, a new, hip casino lounge with 100 seats (plus 33 bar seats with video poker machines), boasts a VIP private area.
Visitors have flocked to the Las Vegas Hilton for its premier entertainment since Elvis Presley sold out show after show. Today, superstar Barry Manilow, whose hit show, "Music and Passion," opened at the resort in February 2005, is the resident headliner. When Manilow is not performing, other great headliners, such as George Lopez, Tony Bennett, and Brooks & Dunn, light up the stage.
The 37,000-square-foot Main Casino offers gaming excitement in a setting unparalleled anywhere in the city. The 30,000-square-foot SuperBook, Nevada's largest, most technologically advanced sports wagering venue, has the capability to broadcast more than 40 different sporting events from around the world at any given time. Boasting 40 giant projection screens and monitors, it has seats for more than 300 people. The Las Vegas Hilton's newly renovated spa is equipped with the latest weight machines and cardio equipment, plus steam rooms, saunas, spa rooms, massage rooms, and a newly added cold plunge in the men's spa and tennis courts area. The first billion-dollar resort to be built off the Las Vegas Strip, Red Rock opened last April near the majestic Red Rock mountains in Summerlin and has since added 400-plus new luxury guest rooms and suites, for a total of 816.
Red Rock features a contemporary design and the latest amenities, comforts, and technology. Guest accommodations are among the largest and most finely appointed in Las Vegas, ranging in size from 525 square feet to 4,400 square feet and offering such amenities as exotic wood furniture, elegant soft goods, 42-inch high-definition plasma TVs, and Bose sound systems with iPod connectivity.
Groups are accommodated in 94,000 square feet of meeting and convention space. Many meeting rooms boast glass walls that offer views of the pool, backyard, and neighboring mountains.
The property's thrilling casino boasts 3,200 slot/video poker machines, 62 table games, a Race and Sports Book with a 96-foot video wall, a 24-hour poker room (smoke-free), a bingo parlor, a keno lounge, and a private high-limit room. Other amenities include nine restaurants, a food court, the 25,000-square-foot Spa at Red Rock Las Vegas, an adventure program, a three-acre pool area, the Cherry Nightclub, and many bars and lounges.
Meanwhile, Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino has completed another phase of its $110 million expansion, the third such project since the property opened in December 2001. The resort has added 14,000 square feet of new meeting space, for a total of 79,000 square feet that includes 37 breakout rooms, four ballrooms, and four outdoor event locations. Functions for up to 4,500 can now be accommodated. Also part of the latest phase of the project were the addition of a 240-seat Race and Sports Book with a 110-foot video wall powered by 18 projectors and two adjacent restaurants, Tides Oyster Bar and Turf Grill; a 22-table, 24-hour non-smoking poker room; more slot and video poker machines. Opening this spring will be additional casino space to house more slot/video poker machines, plus a 500-seat lounge and entertainment venue.
Meanwhile, Green Valley's 490 guest rooms combine Old World style with modern amenities, such as in-room martini bars and high-speed Internet access, and offer stunning views of the Las Vegas Strip, the pool area, or the spa. More than 80 luxury suites in 10 styles range in size from 700 square feet to 4,000 square feet.
Offerings at the Spa at Green Valley Ranch include 22 treatment rooms, VIP pampering suites, and five outdoor treatment cabanas, a private outdoor area with a 25-meter lap pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and an exercise studio.

Tropicana Resort & Casino
Meet the Real Las Vegas at the Tropicana
Located at the heart of the action on the hottest corner of the famed Las Vegas Strip, the Tropicana Resort & Casino is celebrating its 50th anniversary during the remainder of 2007. When it opened its doors on April 4, 1957, the Tropicana was one of the first resort/casinos to define true Las Vegas style and entertainment ... and it continues to offer top-notch resort amenities and exceptional guest service in the classic Las Vegas tradition.
Each beautifully appointed room features every imaginable convenience for travelers on the go - hairdryers, irons and ironing boards, and all the extras that make guests feel at home. Our luxurious suites are the epitome of elegance, with sweeping views of the dazzling Vegas skyline, sumptuous spa tubs, wet bars, separate living areas and bedrooms, and plush furnishings.
The Tropicana is more than just a superior resort hotel: It's the ideal place to host your next business or social function. The Tropicana Convention Facility offers more than 38,000 square feet of flexible meeting and banquet space to accommodate every event from the most intimate gathering to the grandest gala.
Meeting rooms can be arranged for theater, classroom, or banquet seating for up to 2,300 guests. A full range of audiovisual equipment and production services, communication systems, including Wi-Fi high-speed wireless Internet connectivity, computer rental, media production, and creative services ensure a most successful event. The professional on-site catering staff will complement events with the perfect menu - from light refreshments to a lavish gourmet sit-down dinner.
Equally in good taste are the Tropicana's six wonderful restaurants:
Legends Steak & Seafood is famous for thick, juicy steaks, ocean-fresh seafood, and zesty chicken specialties, served in a casually elegant ambiance.
Mizuno's showcases the ancient Japanese dining art of Teppan, as talented chefs entertain guests seated at their sizzling Hibachi grill tables and prepare their delightful dishes.
At Tuscany Italian Café, guests can create their own pasta dishes, choosing between freshly made pastas smothered in their favorite sauces.
The Garden Cafe features a wide variety of delectable entrees served 24 hours daily. Island Buffet is an endless feast of tantalizing chef's creations - made-to-order omelets, hand-carved roasts, crisp salads, and decadent desserts.
Players Deli and Java Java gourmet coffee bar are great for a quick bite or snack during a break from the action.
The Tropicana Hotel & Casino will sponsor many events in 2007, marking its 50th anniversary - but perhaps none will be more significant than the groundbreaking later this year for its multibillion-dollar expansion, which will continue its five-decade long tradition of entertainment on the Las Vegas Strip.
In all, the hotel will grow from 1,876 rooms to more than 10,000 guest rooms, making the Tropicana one of the largest hotel complexes in the world.
We invite you to visit the Tropicana Resort & Casino during our 50th anniversary and enjoy the real Las Vegas!

The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino
Property Creates New Industry Standard for Luxury
If luxury is what you're looking for in a Las Vegas property, look no further than The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. Renowned as one of the world's leading resort and convention destinations and the recipient of numerous honors, including the Mobil Travel Guide's Four-Star and AAA's Four-Diamond awards, The Venetian continues to forge a new industry standard for luxury.
Space, flexibility, and staff expertise have long set The Venetian apart from the pack. The Venetian Congress Center and the Sands Expo provide a collective 2.25 million square feet of convention and meeting space. Floor plans offer up to 298 meeting rooms. This includes the 85,000-square-foot, pillarless Venetian Ballroom and the ability to accommodate events that require many exhibition or demonstration areas with five expansive exhibit halls.
Together, The Venetian Congress Center and the Sands Expo also feature 18 junior ballrooms, 27 intimate hospitality suites, and three executive board rooms. The Venetian's design puts everything delegates require under one roof and just minutes from the meeting area. No need to separate - conventions held at The Venetian also allow for better interaction among attendees during the meeting and en route to post-meeting events and recreation.
Only The Venetian brings European elegance to the Nevada desert in the form of Venice, Italy - everything from winding canals and arched bridges to its famed landmarks and soaring architecture. Guests can shop at more than 80 international boutiques amid The Grand Canal Shoppes, thrill to gondola rides with singing gondoliers on the quarter-mile Grand Canal, and court Lady Luck inside a 120,000-square-foot opulent casino. The artistic spirit of Venice thrives as well in the changing exhibits of historic and modern masterpieces at the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum. This unparalleled European flair extends to the resort's richly appointed 4,027 suites, which are double the size of the average Las Vegas hotel room.
The Venezia tower offers an extraordinary collection of luxury suites and houses an exclusive concierge lounge, a generous pool deck, wedding chapels, and two-time James Beard award-winner Thomas Keller's restaurant, Bouchon. The Venetian's other 19 award-winning restaurants include TAO Asian Bistro, Wolfgang Puck's Postrio, Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico Steakhouse, Mario Batali's B & B Ristorante, and Piero Selvaggio's Valentino.
The Venetian Gardens, a five-acre rooftop setting, boasts four pools, two whirlpools, and private cabanas. Canyon Ranch SpaClub offers more than 120 spa treatments, a wellness center, and a 40-foot rock climbing wall. Entertaining nightly are "Phantom - The Las Vegas Spectacular," Blue Man Group, and the incomparable Gordie Brown. Raising nightlife to a new level is TAO Nightclub. La Scena Lounge, V Bar, and Vivid Nightclub also offer a heady mixture of Las Vegas glamour.
Luxury takes countless forms at The Venetian, where groups enjoy nothing but the utmost in convention services, hospitality, and recreation.
