Letter From the President: Getting Down to Business in Las Vegas
Dear Meeting Manager:
With first-class accommodations, dining, shopping, and entertainment, Las Vegas is well-known as the premier leisure and business destination in the world. A commitment to customer service make Las Vegas the perfect place for your meetings and conventions. Las Vegas resorts are dedicated to attending to the needs of their customers, and corporate clients are one of the most important segments of their clientele. The destination is a leader in embracing advances in technology, connectivity, and other business amenities. From lavish board rooms to grand ballrooms to high-tech meeting and presentation rooms, Las Vegas resorts go out of their way to make sure your meeting is the most productive and successful possible.
Las Vegas continues to grow, with more than $25 billion in construction projects slated to be completed by the end of 2010, including The Palazzo, Cosmopolitan, W Las Vegas, Project CityCenter, Echelon Place, and more. Each new project includes ample space to serve the meeting planner and adds to the existing 9 million square feet of meeting and convention space. Las Vegas also boasts three of the largest convention facilities in the country, including the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), which has 3.2 million square feet of space and is scheduled to undergo a $737 million renovation to maintain its reputation as one of the leading convention facilities worldwide.
Transportation is also a key element for which Las Vegas has allocated ample resources. Located just minutes from McCarran International Airport, the majority of Las Vegas' top meeting facilities are easily and conveniently accessible by taxi cab, shuttle bus, and limousine. The new Las Vegas Monorail provides a convenient alternative to rental cars and taxi cabs, stopping at seven locations along the east side of the Strip. The CAT bus system provides access along the Strip and connections to downtown Las Vegas aboard new British-style, double-decker Deuce buses.
And, as always, it is hard to compete with Las Vegas for amenities your delegates can enjoy after the workday is through. The destination is quickly becoming known as "Broadway-west" for the increasing number of Broadway shows that are migrating to Las Vegas. "MAMMA MIA!" continues its run at the Mandalay Bay, "Hairspray" debuted this year at Luxor, and adaptations of "The Phantom of the Opera" (Venetian) and "Monty Python's Spamalot" (Wynn Las Vegas) are in development. First-class dining continues to expand in Las Vegas, with legendary names such as Joël Robuchon, Alain Ducasse, and Daniel Boulud, and celebrity names like Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, and Bobby Flay serving up dishes.
Las Vegas resorts also recognize the need to relax and have some of the best spas around, some available 24 hours a day. The destination also has some of the best shopping, with The Fashion Show mall, The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, Mandalay Place, Wynn Las Vegas, and more offering high-end retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Hugo Boss, Jimmy Choo, and Jean Paul Gaultier.
While you may know Las Vegas as the "Entertainment Capital of the World," the destination is also committed to being the best place in the world to get down to business.
Sincerely,
Rossi Ralenkotter

Las Vegas: Offers a Wealth of Options for Groups
Las Vegas has everything association groups could possibly desire in a destination, from premier meeting facilities and hotel accommodations, to acclaimed restaurants and seemingly limitless entertainment options. The following is a sampling of the latest developments in this unparalleled city, along with a look at established favorites.
MEETING FACILITIES
Finding meeting space at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) is about to become easier than ever before. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) board of directors has approved a proposed $737 million master plan enhancement program for the facility. Construction is scheduled to begin late this year, with completion expected to occur by the end of 2010.
Primary components of the project will include the addition of meeting rooms to support the center's South Hall exhibition space; as well as the construction of a 100,000-square-foot general session space and a new front lobby connecting the North, Central, and South Halls. Also part of the program are renovations of and upgrades to the existing facility; improvements in access to and from the building; and the construction of an enclosed connector between the LVCC and the Las Vegas monorail station, a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department substation, a Clark County Fire Department station, and a customer service support center.
Planners might also want to consider booking one of Las Vegas' many other high-caliber convention centers, among them the Sands Expo and Convention Center and the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Host to 10 of the top 50 trade shows held in the United States each year, the Sands offers a total of 1.2 million square feet of meeting and exhibit space. Mandalay Bay Convention Center boasts nearly one million square feet of exhibit space, four ballrooms ranging in size from 32,000 square feet to the 100,000-square-foot MegaBallroom, and more than 137 breakout rooms.
RESORT DEVELOPMENT
Excitement has been the watchword on the hotel front, as new resorts and resort enhancements continue to make news. Wynn Las Vegas, the latest creation by real estate mogul Steve Wynn, has opened at an estimated cost of $2.7 billion and is one of the most luxurious hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. New at Caesars Palace is the Augustus Tower, which added 949 luxury rooms and suites, including about 50 extra-large suites, to the property. Additionally, two properties have wrapped up "hotel-within-a-hotel" projects. The MGM Grand has added The Skylofts, a luxury boutique hotel, while The Signature at MGM Grand, a luxurious suite hotel, opens this May.
DINING
The opening of chef Wolfgang Puck's acclaimed Spago at The Forum Shops at Caesars sparked Las Vegas' evolution from the home of the "all-you-can-eat" buffet into one of the world's cutting-edge culinary capitals. Today, celebrity chef restaurants not only dominate the dining scene, but also continue to surface. For starters, the MGM Grand has become the home of Joel Robuchon at the Mansion and L'Atelier du Joel Robuchon. Both restaurants feature the legendary cuisine of Joel Robuchon, France's "Chef of the Century" and the first chef to win three consecutive Michelin stars. Award-winning chef, best-selling cookbook author, and popular television personality Bobby Flay now brings the vibrant Southwestern cuisine of his acclaimed Mesa Grill to Las Vegas with his first restaurant outside New York City at Caesars Palace.
Creative cuisine by another award winner, seafood maestro Rick Moonen, distinguishes the menu at restaurant rm and RM Seafood, two restaurants that have made their debut at Mandalay Bay. Top chefs also dominate four eateries at the new Wynn Las Vegas: Award-winning chef Eric Klein presides at SW Steakhouse, while Executive Chef Richard Chen puts a decadent twist on early French-influenced Shanghai cuisine at Wing Lei. James Beard Award recipient Chef Paul Bartolotta cooks up classic Italian cuisine with fresh seafood flown in daily at Bartolotta, and Chef Alessandro Stratta, another James Beard Award winner, brings French Riviera cuisine to Las Vegas at Alex.
Other top celebrity restaurants in town include Mix in Las Vegas at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay (Alain Ducasse), Lutece at The Venetian (Eberhard Muller), Fleur de Lys at Mandalay Bay (Hubert Keller), Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio (Jean-Georges Vongerichten), and Bouchon at The Venetian (Thomas Keller). Also on the list are: Michael Mina at Bellagio (Michael Mina), Emeril's New Orleans Fish House at MGM Grand, and Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian (Emeril Lagasse), and Simon Kitchen and Bar at the Hard Rock Hotel (Kerry Simon), just to name a few.
Delegates may also relish a visit to one of the city's many themed restaurants. The well-executed concepts of these establishments, which range from movies and music to sports and the jungle, can be tied into meeting themes, too. Venues worth checking out include the sports themed ESPN-Zone at New York-New York, the rock 'n' roll shrine Hard Rock Café, the biker bar extraordinaire Harley-Davidson Café, and the tropical- themed Rainforest Café at MGM Grand.
The House of Blues at Mandalay Bay offers a casual R&B ambiance, Southern cuisine, and live entertainment in its Music Hall, while memorabilia from Hollywood blockbusters sets the tone at Planet Hollywood at the Forum Shops at Caesars. The Sahara's NASCAR Café has a racing theme with authentic NASCAR memorabilia plus virtual racecar experience with one of the city's fastest roller coasters.
ENTERTAINMENT
Las Vegas is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World - and given the breadth of diversions here, that's no surprise. "The Broadway invasion" of the city continues to make big news here. The Broadway hit "Hairspray" recently made its debut at the Luxor; and a dedicated $30 million opera house will open at The Venetian to showcase its new production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Phantom of the Opera." Other popular long-running favorite shows include "MAMMA MIA!" (Mandalay Bay), and "Tony 'n Tina's Wedding" (Rio). Premiering next year at Wynn Las Vegas: "Monty Python's Spamalot," which recounts the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their quest for the Holy Grail.
Beyond the "Broadway" stage, Barry Manilow's show, "Manilow: Music and Passion," plays at the Las Vegas Hilton and "Le Reve," an aquatic spectacular, ranks among headline diversions at Wynn Las Vegas. Cirque du Soleil introduced "KA" at MGM Grand, its fourth resident show on the Las Vegas Strip. Speaking of Cirque du Soleil, this summer will mark the premiere of a Cirque du Soleil live theater presentation celebrating The Beatles, which will grace the stage at The Mirage.
Additional Las Vegas favorites include "Jubilee" (Bally's Las Vegas), "La Femme" (MGM Grande), and "Les Folies Bergere" (Tropicana). Impersonator Danny Gans wows crowds at The Mirage, while magician Lance Burton astounds audiences at the Monte Carlo. Wayne Newton shows off his singing talents at the Flamingo.
Several new nightclubs have also begun welcoming visitors in recent months. JET, at The Mirage, features three dance floors and four bars. A 40-foot-long outside terrace with views of the Las Vegas Strip graces TAO Nightclub at The Venetian, whose other features include gorgeous go-go dancers, state-of-the-art audio and lighting systems, and varying music formats. Tryst, at Wynn Las Vegas, boasts a 12,000-square-foot main room that surrounds a dance floor. The dance floor extends over a lagoon, into which an open waterfall drops 90 feet. Seating for up to 1,100 people may be found inside.
For Las Vegas laughs, hypnotist Anthony Cools now stars in Excalibur's "Raw & Uncensored," a comedy show billed as offering "good, clean, dirty fun." The city's list of comedy clubs includes: the Laugh Trax Comedy Club (Palace Station), the Riviera Comedy Club (Riviera), The Comedy Stop (Tropicana), The Improv Club (Harrah's), and The Second City (Flamingo).
SHOPPING
Meeting attendees can shop until they drop in Las Vegas. Some of the city's newest shopping venues are Mandalay Place, the newly expanded Forum Shops at Caesars, and Las Vegas Premium Outlets.
A $28 million, 31-foot-long skybridge connects the Mandalay Bay Hotel with the Luxor. Mandalay Place houses specialty retailers and restaurants, including the world's first Nike Golf shop and the acclaimed Caffe Giorgio. At the Forum Shops at Caesars, a 175,000-square-foot, three-level expansion extends the popular shopping mall out to the Strip and new stores include the United States' first Juicy Couture boutique, Kate Spade, and Harry Winston, along with acclaimed restaurants such as Sushi Roku and Il Mulino. Las Vegas Premium Outlets, located minutes from the Strip, is an upscale outdoor mall with a village setting that offers enormous savings at its outlet stores, among them Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana.
Fashion Show, the largest shopping mecca on the Strip, has been expanded to nearly 2 million square feet. With eight flagship stores and more than 250 shops and restaurants, it also serves as a dramatic venue for special events.
Visitors can even go "abroad" to shop - without taking their passports. At the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, more than 80 stores and restaurants flank a replica of Venice's Grand Canal, complete with gondolas and singing gondoliers. Via Bellagio at Bellagio is the home of such luxury retailers as Chanel, Armani, Gucci, Prada, Hermes, and Tiffany & Co.
ATTRACTIONS
Many of Las Vegas' major attractions are located in its major resorts. Mandalay Bay is home to Shark Reef; Paris Las Vegas features the Eiffel Tower; The Venetian houses Madame Tussauds Celebrity Encounter; and the MGM Grand boasts a one-of-a-kind Lion Habitat. Meeting-weary delegates may also want to check out the Secret Garden of Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage; Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton; the Adventuredome at Circus Circus; and the 1,149-foot observation tower at the Stratosphere, which recently introduced "Insanity," its newest ride.
Off the Strip, the revamped Fremont Street Experience comprises a four-block downtown pedestrian concourse covered with the biggest screen on the planet. Viva Vision towers 90 feet above visitors' heads and reaches almost 1,500 feet in length, while boasting a foot-high canopy that pumps out 545,000 watts of music and special effects. The $100 million Neonopolis project entices visitors downtown with its mix of restaurants, shops, and a 14-screen movie theater.
GOLF
More than 60 golf courses, each with its own character and attributes, lie within a one-hour radius of Las Vegas. Year-round golfing weather offers a pleasant reprieve for attendees from colder climates, while courses designed by the top names in golf - Nicklaus, Fazio, Dye, Jones, Weiskopf, Casper, and Palmer - contribute to a memorable experience.
Imperial Palace: Meeting Facilities Are Tops in Quality, Service, Value
In this day of never-ending reality makeover shows, it's only fitting that one of the "elder statesmen" properties on the Las Vegas Strip has introduced a whole new look for its guests. The Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino has undergone a multimillion-dollar renovation that makes the center-Strip property a fresh new experience.
Planners set their sights on the hotel's meeting facilities because the service, quality, and value for the price just cannot be beat. With the flexibility of accommodating a party of 10 people up to a convention of 984 delegates, the Imperial Palace can cater to the needs of any group meeting or banquet, while maintaining its signature "Five-Star Friendly Service" for even the smallest get-together.
The 11,575-square-foot Royal Halls convention area can be arranged to host a banquet for 650 people, a cocktail reception for 720, or theater-style seating for 960.
The Royal Halls can also be divided into three separate sections with seating arrangements for 80 to 640 people. Thirteen meeting rooms, located on the fourth floor of the Pagoda Tower, accommodate 20 to 300 people, and the fifth-floor Plaza Room seats 100 to 200 meeting attendees.
Additionally, the Imperial Palace is certified by the Professional Convention Management Association as "PCMA Space Verified by MeetingMatrix." Its catering department, led by the 2004 National Association of Catering Executives' Caterer of the Year for Las Vegas, not only has menus for every budget and occasion, it can provide floral arrangements, table decorations, and complete themes and décor for any event. Ask about the department's signature ice sculptures and stunning fruit and vegetable carvings.
Many of the Imperial Palace's guest rooms have been renovated. The property has also added a Las Vegas Monorail Hotel Access area, putting it at the most central stop along the Monorail route.
While it has a new look, the Imperial Palace still hosts its classic attractions. Legends in Concert, now in its 23rd year and one of the longest-running shows on the Strip, is the original celebrity tribute spectacular, with dancers, singers, and live musicians. Enjoy incredible look-alike and sound-alike performances of an ever-changing lineup of superstars.
The Dealertainers combine gaming and entertainment with celebrity look-alikes dealing blackjack. The Imperial Palace's signature gaming-entertainment concept is so popular that Dealertainers work the casino daily from noon to 4 a.m. The Dealertainers Pit is a perfect complement to the already successful Champagne Pit, which features a tribute to the Rat Pack era of Las Vegas with music from the early '60s, free-flowing champagne, and fun, friendly dealers. Beginning on April 18 and running through October, enjoy the annual Imperial Hawaiian Luau, a poolside buffet and Polynesian revue held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings. In its 15th year, the feast is surrounded by the hotel's signature fruit and vegetable carvings and includes unlimited mai tais, pina coladas, and fruit punch. The colorful music and dance show includes a show-stopping spectacular fire knife dance.
The Auto Collections, housed on the fifth level, is the world's largest classic car lot, with $100 million worth of inventory - including antique, famous, and historically significant cars - on display and for sale. The Spa will keep meeting attendees in shape with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. And when it's time to unwind, guests can relax in the Imperial Palace's eucalyptus steam room, redwood sauna, or Jacuzzi. Complete the spa experience with a facial, massage, or body wrap - affordable luxury available to hotel and non-hotel guests alike.
Las Vegas Hilton: Top-Name Facilities, Entertainment Attract Groups
With all of its features and amenities, the Las Vegas Hilton not only offers the quintessential Las Vegas experience; it provides groups with everything they need for productive, memorable meetings, including 3,000 luxurious rooms and suites. Located on a 59-acre expanse of land just blocks from the Las Vegas Strip, the Las Vegas Hilton hosts meetings and conventions in more than 200,000 square feet of function space, which now boasts new carpeting, wall coverings, and paint. The Hilton Center, which comprises the Conrad Room and the Barron Room, spans a collective 70,000 square feet of meeting space. Each room is pillarless and has a 25-foot ceiling. Eight separate, pillarless rooms with moveable partitions and ceiling heights of 23 feet to a maximum of 35 feet maximum make up the Pavilion, where groups will discover 43,130 square feet of meeting space.
Planners can also book the 35,000-square-foot ballroom, which may be divided into seven separate, pillarless rooms with a minimum ceiling height of 12 feet and a maximum ceiling height of 17 feet. Fourteen conference rooms, each with moveable partitions and 10-foot ceilings, offer a total of 9,385 square feet of meeting space and are ideal for breakout sessions. For smaller gatherings, the board room and the executive board room, located next to the conference rooms, provide 540 square feet and 812 square feet of space, respectively.
Visitors have flocked to the Las Vegas Hilton for its premier entertainment since Elvis Presley's first sold-out show was held at the property (then called the International) in 1969. Top-name entertainers, such as Barry Manilow, lure guests to the 1,638-seat Hilton Theater, which boasts crystal-clear sound, state-of-the-art lighting, enhancing all performances held there.
Elegantly appointed with marble, rich woods, and imported crystal, the 37,000-square-foot Main Casino remains alive with round-the-clock excitement in an unparalleled setting. The SpaceQuest Casino is the gateway to thrills of another kind at Star Trek: The Experience, the hotel's popular motion simulator attraction and museum.
What's more, from quick snacks to seven-course feasts, the Las Vegas Hilton treats guests to a distinctive range of culinary adventures in restaurants throughout the property, including the Hilton Steakhouse, Andiamo, Garden of the Dragon, 888 Noodle Bar, Benihana, and Teru Sushi. Casual dining options include: the Paradise Café, The Buffet, MargaritaGrille, and Quarks, as well as many fast food outlets.
Fortuna, the hotel's gourmet coffee and wine bar, is open 24 hours a day and offers wireless Internet access. Featured here are world-class Illy coffees, international bottled waters, boutique wines, and an array of breakfast gourmet pastries, including fruit tarts, fruits, yogurt, and cakes. Express lunch also is available, with a choice of deli and panini sandwiches. Tempo, the Las Vegas Hilton's high-energy lounge, is the ultimate gathering place for guests, featuring cutting-edge music, international wines and champagnes, super premium cocktails, tableside bottle service, and exclusive teas and coffees. Professional dancers add choreographed entertainment to the mix.
Finally, meeting-weary attendees will want to check out the property's $18 million pool and recreational deck, as well as its full-service health club and spa. Two shopping promenades, a hair salon, a car rental desk, and a business center round out the list of first-class amenities.
The Mirage: Transformation Ups Ante on the Las Vegas Strip
The Mirage, the hotel that introduced the "destination resort" concept to the Las Vegas Strip in 1989, is undergoing a transformation that is once again raising the bar for Las Vegas resort properties. Beginning last year and continuing through early 2007, the transformation of this AAA Four-Diamond Polynesian paradise includes the addition of new restaurants, a dynamic nightclub, a modern gaming area, and a Cirque du Soleil production celebrating the musical legacy of The Beatles. Additionally, the resort's volcano, the iconic Mirage feature recognized around the world, is set to undergo a fiery enhancement.
Works by renowned glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, unveiled this past July, complement the new contemporary look of The Mirage's High Limit Lounge and Baccarat gaming area. Unique finishes and textures, such as bronze, stainless steel, wood, and glass, exemplify modern design throughout the lounge's three separate, semi-private gaming sections, private buffet, and dining rooms.
Meanwhile, November of 2005 marked the unveiling of Fin, a high-end, contemporary Chinese restaurant. Chef Chi Choi, a master of the Hong Kong-style wok, leads the menu innovation here. With a décor largely centered around elegant glass designs, the restaurant showcases a spectacular water feature at one end of the room. STACK Restaurant & Bar, which opened last December, features a warm, welcoming environment with a vibrant feel and a return to fun, approachable American cuisine by Chef Brian Massie, who focuses on simply grilled, top-quality fish, meat, and poultry.
But this is just the beginning of the story. December of 2005 also brought the opening of JET Nightclub, as well as the reopening of kokomo's. The Light Group, which set the standard for Las Vegas nightlife and dining with its sophisticated, stylish, celebrity-attracting Light Nightclub, Caramel Bar & Lounge, and FIX Restaurant & Bar at Bellagio and Mist Lounge at Treasure Island, has introduced the latest evolution of nightlife artistry with JET. Acclaimed designer Jeffrey Beers envisioned the 15,000- square-foot club's sleek, multilevel environment that has created the ultimate nightclub experience.
One of the city's most successful steakhouses, kokomo's now boasts a contemporary open design and a sleek new bar that serves as its focal point of activity and a repositioned entrance to the main hotel lobby. Fine steak and exotic seafood dishes are the order of the day.
Additionally, Japonais, a marriage of modern-day Japan with old-style European elegance, will debut this spring. An outpost of the acclaimed Chicago restaurant of the same name, Japonais will offer the best in new Asian cuisine. During the summer of 2006, guests can look forward to the debut of an unprecedented live theater production by Cirque du Soleil, celebrating the musical legacy and extraordinary experience of The Beatles. And in early 2007, The Mirage will unveil its enhanced iconic volcano, which will regale visitors with taller-blasting fire explosions, and seemingly hotter lava, louder sound effects for an even more realistic volcano experience.
These new venues are complemented by recent redesigns of the property's tropical pool area, surrounded by lush foliage and waterfalls. What's more, no visit to The Mirage would be complete without seeing Danny Gans, who fascinates audiences with his unbelievable talents as a singer-impressionist-comedian-actor in his award-winning show. Also "musts" are visits to the property's Royal White Tiger Habitat and Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. The latter is now available for outdoor group events and offers a new "Trainer-for-a-Day" program.

The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino: Property Creates New Industry Standard for Luxury
If luxury is what you're looking for in a Las Vegas property, look no further than The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. Renowned as one of the world's leading resort and convention destinations and the recipient of an abundance of honors, including the Mobil Travel Guide's Four-Star and AAA's Four Diamond awards, The Venetian continues to forge a new industry standard for luxury.
Space, flexibility, and staff expertise have long set The Venetian apart from the pack. The Venetian Congress Center and the Sands Expo provide a collective 1.9 million square feet of convention and meeting space. Floor plans offer up to 325 meeting rooms. This includes the 85,000-square-foot, pillarless Venetian Ballroom and the ability to accommodate events that require many exhibition or demonstration areas with five expansive exhibit halls.
Together, The Venetian Congress Center and the Sands Expo also feature 18 junior ballrooms, 27 intimate hospitality suites, and three executive board rooms. The Venetian's design puts everything delegates require under one roof and just minutes from the meeting area. No need to separate - conventions held at The Venetian also allow for better interaction among attendees during the meeting and en route to post-meeting events and recreation.
Only The Venetian brings European elegance to the Nevada desert in the form of Venice, Italy - everything from the winding canals and arched bridges to its famed landmarks and soaring architecture. Guests can shop at more than 80 international boutiques amid The Grand Canal Shoppes, thrill to gondola rides with singing gondoliers on the quarter-mile Grand Canal, and court Lady Luck inside a 120,000-square-foot opulent casino. This unparalleled European flair extends to the resort's 4,027 suites, which are double the size of the average Las Vegas hotel room and richly appointed. The Venezia tower offers an extraordinary collection of luxury suites and houses an exclusive concierge lounge, a generous pool deck, wedding chapels, and two-time James Beard award-winner Thomas Keller's restaurant, Bouchon.
